1. Purpose of the Training:
This training aims to convey the fundamental principles of preparing technical documentation in compliance with the ASD S1000D standard through real project experience and practical, everyday examples.
S1000D is an internationally recognized standard for technical documentation. Its main goal is to create standardized, modular, and reusable technical documents for complex or highly configurable systems such as those in the defense, aerospace, maritime, and related sectors.
The core principle of S1000D is to build documents from small units called Data Modules, allowing the same information to be reused across multiple publications. This approach increases documentation accuracy, ensures standardization, and provides savings in time and cost. Additionally, since documents are coded in a structured manner, they are easier to manage digitally and facilitate the creation of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) that can interact with users.
With S1000D;
- Standardized technical documents can be created

- Documentation accuracy increases, and updating and configuration management become easier
- IETM content can be generated more efficiently
The training begins with a brief overview of ILS definitions and standards, followed by lifecycle phases and related ILS activities. It then dives deep into the S1000D standard, including basic definitions, data modules, Common Source DataBase (CSDB), data structures, Business Rules (BRs), schemas, and software support tools. Participants will gain detailed knowledge of the activities required to develop technical documentation in compliance with the S1000D standard and contractual requirements.
All training materials are specifically prepared by the instructor for this course, drawing on personal expertise and referencing international ILS standards (ASD, DEF-STAN, JSP, MIL-STD, NATO, SAE) and widely recognized publications.
