1. Purpose of the Training

This training aims to deliver the fundamental principles of Obsolescence Management through real project experience and practical, everyday examples.

Obsolescence Management refers to the transition of components that constitute a system/product from being procurable to no longer available. When it occurs, obsolescence can render a system or product unusable or require costly solutions. Therefore, effective management of obsolescence is essential.

The main goal of Obsolescence Management is to enable the design of systems/products that are supportable from an obsolescence perspective by contributing to early design phases, and to ensure cost-effective, performance-based support throughout their lifecycle. To achieve this, it is critical to analyze and identify obsolescence risks, monitor those risks throughout the defined intervals to detect early warning signs, and develop optimal mitigation strategies when obsolescence occurs.

Benefits of Obsolescence Management include:

  • Minimizing and managing obsolescence risk
  • Identifying high-risk components to achieve maximum risk reduction with minimum effort
  • Detecting components at risk of becoming obsolete in advance and taking preventive action
  • Selecting the most optimal obsolescence mitigation strategy when needed
  • Significantly increasing operational availability
  • Reducing lifecycle cost substantially

The training begins with a brief overview of ILS concepts and standards, as well as lifecycle phases and related ILS activities. It then focuses in detail on obsolescence definitions, approaches, planning, analysis, monitoring, and mitigation methods. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of how to carry out Obsolescence Management activities in line with standards and contractual requirements.

All training materials are specifically prepared by the instructor, based on professional experience and referencing international ILS standards (ASD, DEF-STAN, JSP, MIL-STD, NATO, SAE) and widely accepted literature.
